Certain foods may have good or bad effects on blood pressure. Foods that contain high amounts of salt such as cured meats or canned foods can have a bad effect on blood pressure. Caffeine and certain medications can also raise blood pressure. On the other hand, a diet that consists mostly of fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy products that are low in saturated fat, total fat and cholesterol can help keep your blood pressure lower. Tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, saffron, onions and garlic are all foods that can actually lower blood pressure.
