What can a person do to prevent contracting heart disease?

This week's question was from Stacey in Madera: What can a person do to prevent contracting heart disease?

Jeff:

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key. Eat healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables and foods that are high in fiber, participate in a good cardio workout program, maintain a healthy weight, and don’t smoke. Learn how to deal with stress, and keep your cholesterol and blood pressure in a healthy range. High blood pressure over time can damage artery walls. Lastly, get tested for diabetes, as diabetes can increase your chance of getting heart disease. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about heart disease prevention.
