Do women always experience chest pain when having a heart attack?
This week's question was from Colleen in Chowchilla: Do women always experience chest pain when having a heart attack?
No. Many women who experience a heart attack report having no chest pain at all. Their symptoms usually include shortness of breath, weakness, unusual fatigue, cold sweats and dizziness. Because getting treatment for a heart attack quickly is critical, a woman should not wait for chest pain before seeking medical treatment if the above symptoms are present. If you have experienced these symptoms in the past, talk with your doctor immediately to determine if your symptoms were caused by a heart attack.
