Did you know cantaloupes are a type of melon belonging to the cucumber family? This low-calorie, vitamin-A rich fruit can help lower your risk for lung diseases like emphysema.

 SELECTING YOUR CANTALOUPE:

  • Check the stem end for a clean, smooth indentation to ensure it was picked at maturity.
  • A good melon will be symmetrical and the blossom end should give with slight pressure.
  • Cantaloupes will become yellow as they ripen. Avoid melons with lumps or soft spots.

 STORING YOUR CANTALOUPE:

  • Store in the refrigerator for up to five days.

 SERVING YOUR CANTALOUPE:

  • Wash the outside of the melon before cutting into it to avoid spreading bacteria into the meat of the melon.
  • After washing and removing the seeds and netting, your cantaloupe can be cut into pieces and served as it.
